During one of our early visits to Saskatoon, in September 1989, Warren and Sandy arranged for us to spend some time in the Pratt's cottage on Emma Lake, north of Prince Albert. While there we were to go on a four-day canoe trip. Joyce and I (Peter) were complete novices and had no idea what to expect.
Warren thought that a trip on Kingsmere in Prince Albert National Park would be a suitable introduction for us. He and Sandy had made a trip there earlier in the year. Warren had a Springbok aluminium canoe, and we borrowed a similar model from Chris. At that time Warren was running a Fiat X1-9 and had fabricated canoe carriers which bolted on to the front and rear bumpers.
Joyce and I had come from Virginia in our Mazda 626, and we loaded the canoe onto the roof on Styrofoam blocks
Warren and Sandy had, of course, organized everything, since Joyce and I had no idea of what would be needed.
On the big day, in the cabin, Joyce and I were up at 6.00 am ready for an early start. At that time (before Keiran) Sandy and Warren were on a different time schedule, and emerged much later. We hung around the cabin, and finally Warren said "Why don't we go and play a round of golf?" I was aghast, but off we went. We returned and loaded the canoes, and finally got on the road to Waskesiu at about 2 pm.
