December

On December 4, Graham arrived with a crew to move the piano case (another story) to his house. On Monday, December 6, Joyce and I moved out of the house, with a lot of last minute baggage (which I was sure would overload the trailer) and took up residence at Lake Fairfax. We were there for a week, and it rained every day. The campsite was a sea of mud and it was cold, although the warm clean campsite showers were a joy.

We checked the house, one last time, on Tuesday December 7, and to our horror found a puddle of water on the living room floor under a skylight which we had gone to great cost and effort to have someone fix. We went to settlement on December 8, and put $2,100 into escrow to fix things. We celebrated back in the trailer.

December 9, we went to George Mason University to see the Angkor Wat temple rubbing we had donated. Here we are with the head of the department.
It has a nice brass plaque.

We had lunch with Mary Hampshire, and then bought two new pairs of running shoes for Joyce and another pair for me. Went back to the rain and the mud at Lake Fairfax.

Friday December 10 was my last day at the spinning class at Lifetime, in Centreville. The class was at 05.30 in the morning and we had a good send off party for me (and sweated a bit too)

In the evening we went to our last sushi dinner at Genji, a tradition of about 25 years. Saturday we went out with Graham and family to dinner.

Sunday morning, December 12, Graham and Eric arrived at 07.00 to help us hitch up and move out. We were on the road by 08.30

December 12, 13 and 14, we were on the road. The trailer towed nicely, and easily. I kept it at 55 mph in Virginia, then when it flattened out in North Carolina I raised the cruise control to 60 mph. Very relaxed with no need to look out for cops, big semis passing us, and the Duramax turning over at 1900 rpm, with Joyce coasting along behind in the TT. Both campsites on the way (North Carolina and Georgia) had pull through sites, and we found that we did not even have to unhitch the truck to level the trailer. We could use the TT to go out to dinner. Even so, I found things a bit stressful so no pictures! (One stressful moment was when I tried to follow Joyce into a gas station, and cranking a tight turn found a flower bed between the truck and the trailer. I eased back into the street, cranked it the other way and survived)

About 1 pm on 14th we arrived at Spruce Creek. We spent an hour unloading all of the freight and foodstuff from the trailer, and then took it to a storage place about a 1/4 mile down the road.

Then we took stock. This was the second bedroom (where Warren and Sandy will stay in March - assuming it is cleared out by then)

This was the living room with the lanai (patio) behind:

And this was the garage:
Luckily, Kenudsons were hosting a dinner party on December 15, so off we went north again, about an hour's drive.

Now all we have to do is unpack 260 boxes.
