Yoho 2020 – Day 0,1 – Getting There and Twin Falls Campground

We have done this drive so many times. We left Saskatoon mid-morning and pulled into the Applause Hotel at the Calgary airport around 5:30. This included at stop at Bass Pro Shop in the Cross Iron Mills shopping center. Calgary had just introduced compulsory mask usage in all indoor public places, and we were very happy to see that most people obeyed.

The next day, we had breakfast in the hotel, and then drove the few hours to Takakkaw Falls. Because of the mask restrictions for indoor places, you were only allowed to take your mask off inside your room, or once seated in the restaurant. I like this.

The hike in is easy, even in big backpacks. We are still old style, our packs typically weighing 40 lbs (+/- 10 lbs). In 2 1/2 hours, we were there.

But, we still had some drama. Within 10 minutes of leaving Takakkaw Falls in the heat, the thunderstorm rolled in. Pouring rain. Then hail. Then constant rain for the next few hours. Sandy failed to find her pack cover which led to some wet items.
