Canal Boating

This had been on my bucket list for when I got older. I guess I am there.

The canal boating I am talking about is cruising the canals in the UK. The UK canal system is a set of old canals that have been brought back to life by historical societies like the Canal & River Trust. These canals were the kick starter for the industrial revolution. After about a hundred years or so, they were replaced by steam engines on railways and fell into disuse. They silted up, were paved over and generally just disappeared from view. But in their time, they were the bleeding edge of technology.

Nowadays, the restored canal network is only used by recreational boaters. Some people live full-time on these boats, but most are just for holidays and vacations, much in the way that RVs are used for camping trips in the US.
