Blog – RTW 2011

We figured we should take a long trip with Keiran to see the world while he was still willing to spend time with his parents. Sandy set things up so that she could take a long leave of absence, and I managed to get 6 weeks off.

We wanted to see a variety of things but didn’t want to spend most of the time in airports so we scoped things down to a few select destinations. Keiran was ready for anything. We ended up choosing:

  • Barcelona: Experience Europe. As an added bonus neither Sandy nor I had ever been there.
  • Italy (Rome, Pompei, Herculaneum, Amalfi Coast): Sandy and I had done this before and really wanted to see it again.
  • Thailand (Flooded Bangkok, Kayaking): I grew up in Bangkok, and Sandy and I had also visited once before. We love it there. This time we would do a bit more “adventure” stuff by going sea kayaking in caves etc. in the south.
  • Cambodia: We had never visited Angkor Wat before. And really wanted to.
  • New Zealand: Another new place for us to visit. And we would spend 3 weeks there, meeting up with the Clossons as they did their Round the World trip (1 year long, going the other way).

We kept a Blog of our adventure, and Sandy updated it every week or so. The links are to each blog entry.
