This was to be a big day with our big packs. We know we are slow with our big packs. Down and out to Takakkaw Falls where we would swap stuff in and out of our packs at the cars. Then walk through the tourists at Takakkaw Falls, and head up the switchbacks accross from the falls up to Yoho Lake. Elaine pointed out that we probably should have just stayed up high. Next time.
Yoho Lake is an idyllic lake nestled in an alpine valley. The surrounding peaks were only visible through gaps in the trees or across the lake. The lake was the warmest alpine lake that I have ever been in. Shay swam out to the middle of it and stayed there for half an hour.
Being the only people at the lake, we chose a picnic table specifically so that we could hang a tarp over it. Mission accomplished.
Like any (all?) alpine meadows, there were mosquitoes.
