We started the day with breakfast, and then me convincing Keith to get into my wetsuit and dive
down to find the coffee pot. Keith even had some swim goggles to wear. The coffee pot and the
lost bottle of Tang were recovered.
The muchly-anticipated gorge was anticlimatic. At high water levels, this gorge is a raging mass of
white foam, which jet boats can safely ascend. Here are Sandy and I, zigzagging down the creek,
and then skidding down some smooth steps. Keith and Judy also ran this one, but no-one was
there to take pictures!
We then had a hard paddle across McIntosh Lake, into strong headwinds. Once across, we hit
the beach to recharge our stores.
We continued south, and down a quick rapid (in the evening gloom) out onto the Churchill river.
The Churchill river splits into two branches. The recomended route, the northern branch is small.
Because of the low water levels, we thought it would be more interesting to take the southern
branch, where 90% of the water went. We paddled south, and camped on an island in Trout
Lake.
